"They asked for a flower, so I became a Daisy. They never noticed the roots were made of thorns."

In the garden of the Apothecary, the Daisy is often dismissed as simple, cheerful, and "polite." But the word Daisy comes from the Old English daeges eage, the Day’s Eye. She is a sentinel. She watches. She survives the dark by folding her heart away until the light is safe again.

To my sisters in the veil: we know this flower better than anyone.

From a young age, we are taught that a smile is our primary defense. We learn the "Polite Smile", that specific, orchestrated mask used to navigate a world of unwanted advances and prying eyes. We turn ourselves into a common Daisy because the world rarely looks twice at what it sees as ordinary. It is a camouflage of the "everyday," a tactical retreat that hides the vibrant, wild Nymph spirit beneath a smile of "don't mind me."

When we shrivel, when we hide, we aren't becoming weak. We are withdrawing our energy from the hands that try to take it without asking. We are retreating into the ground where our roots are thick with the thorns of every woman who had to smile her way through a dark room before us.

There is a secret in the Magic of the Daisy: she is built to be unbreakable.

The Daisy grows low to the ground, staying close to the roots and close to her sisters. She is one of the few flowers that can be stepped on by a heavy boot and not snap. She is flexible. When society tries to crush us under its weight, we don't break, we bend, we breathe, and we spring back up the moment the pressure lifts.

One Daisy is a flower, a field of us is an unbreakable mantle. We are the ones who know that standing together in the dirt is more powerful than blooming alone in a vase.

The song "Daisy" (blooming on the Flower Moon, May 1st) is the anthem for that hidden spirit. It is the reclaiming of the "Sacred No." It’s about the moment the Nymph stops performing and starts dancing again, not for an audience, but for herself.

I danced with an apple tree today, I let the wind wash the "polite" away. The Nymph in me is tied, So I shrivel, I hide, I turn my face to the sun, And wait for the day the pretending is done.

A Message to the Sisterhood

If you are currently wearing your "Polite Armor," know that I see the thorns behind your petals. Those white rays of the Daisy aren't just for show; they are protective shields for the dense, golden sun of your complexity.

  • You don't have to be loud to be powerful.

  • You don't have to bloom for those who don't deserve your scent.

  • Sometimes, shriveling into a flower is the only way to protect the wildness inside.

The roots remember everything we tried to bury. They carry the Whispers in the Ground All the women ,the witches, before us. Even a shriveled nymph carries the power of the entire forest.

Daisy blooms May 1st. Join the veil.
